How to run a simulator golf league

Last updated

Simulator golf keeps a group playing from October to April. The trick is making those rounds count toward the same season without letting them distort your course records.

Count indoor rounds in the same season

If half your golf happens indoors in winter, a league that ignores it loses half its story. Let simulator and course rounds feed one set of standings so the season runs continuously.

Use a round handicap

Simulators are often easier or harder than the real course, and each bay plays differently. Agree on a handicap for the round, entered for each player, instead of using the outdoor number blindly.

Net score then works exactly as it does outdoors: gross minus round handicap, lowest wins the place.

Keep personal bests separate

A 66 in a simulator is not a course record. Track simulator and outdoor bests separately so one never overwrites the other.

Golf Beer League does this automatically: you choose simulator or course when recording the round, and each keeps its own personal bests.

Pick a standard setup

Agree on tees, wind and pin settings, and stick to them. The league stays fair when everyone plays the same conditions on the same kind of day.

Make it social

Simulator nights work best with a fixed slot and a small stake, like a round of drinks. The standings supply the bragging rights, and a good league name does the rest.
